Get Started with iiRDS: The New Guide for the Standardized Use of iiRDS Is Here
The iiRDS Consortium is pleased to announce the publication of the Guide for the Standardized Use of iiRDS. This free resource supports authors, content engineers, and developers who are taking their first steps in tagging technical documentation with iiRDS metadata.
Annotating content with iiRDS metadata can be challenging, especially for beginners. The new guide provides practical explanations and examples to help users select and apply iiRDS concepts consistently and correctly. As a non-normative supplement to the iiRDS standard, the guide interprets the core iiRDS concepts (excluding administrative metadata) and clarifies cases where similar metadata might be difficult to distinguish. The document not only supports manual tagging but also provides valuable context for automatic annotation using large language models (LLMs). This makes it a helpful resource for both technical communicators and developers implementing intelligent content workflows.
Collaboration and background
This project was realized as a tender awarded to parson AG, who developed the guide together with plusmeta GmbH. A task force within the Consortium’s Development Working Group accompanied the project, providing continuous feedback and expert input throughout the development process.
By offering this guide, the iiRDS Consortium continues to foster international awareness and adoption of iiRDS and to support organizations in implementing metadata tagging in a standardized, reliable, and efficient way.
